Welcome to the Studio for Music Therapy!
“Our mission is to awaken hearts and minds through music”
-Mall Kiil, founder and principal, Studio for Music Therapy
Music always seems to bring joy to the faces of children and adults!
But more than that — music, used as a clinical and therapeutic tool, can facilitate young and old to
engage in new connections and experiences, to develop functional skills and to enrich their lives.
What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program (definition from American Music Therapy Association website)
Our Philosophy
We believe that music has a unique power to impact lives and effect positive change — no matter what an individual’s developmental or skill level. Our sessions are client-centered — i.e, the client’s strengths and needs are noted at each session in order to create a supportive environment where there is freedom to work on social, cognitive, emotional and physical goals in an accessible and creative manner. Often, music speaks louder than words!
What Populations Do We Serve?
Since its inception in 2005, this Studio has worked with children experiencing learning and communications difficulties, children with various neurological disorders, children and young adults on the autism spectrum, adults with alzheimer’s and other medical and emotional challenges. We have worked with individual clients at our studio location in Wayne or at clients’ homes. Music therapy groups have been led at nursery schools, hospitals and senior centers.
